Working with Trauma

Physical and emotional trauma activate neural pathways designed to protect us from further injury.  Under normal circumstances, the body returns to normal, stress-free function when the threat is over. The autonomic nervous system mediates this function without conscious thought. However, when trauma is sudden, sustained over a long period of time, or when there are multiple traumas overlying one another, these protective patterns tend to recur.  It is then difficult to shift back to more normal regulation. This can result in such problems as chronic pain or discomfort, headache, fatigue, chronic illness, anxiety, stress, and many other such symptoms.

Combining her knowledge of osteopathy, physical therapy, and Somatic Experiencing, Stacey can help people move through and resolve these stubborn patterns. Somatic Experiencing is a method in which one explores these less-conscious parts of the nervous system.  This combines beautifully with the osteopathic teaching that the body is a self-healing mechanism. The aim of this work is to resolve both short term and long-term chronic patterns that often result in pain and dysregulation in the body.
